Join textile artist Barrie Cohen of Beezie Textiles for an afternoon learning bundle-dyeing techniques using found flora, inspired by MAD’s current exhibition Counter-Couture: Handmade Fashion in an American Counterculture.
For this two-hour workshop, Cohen will provide attendees with plants and flowers she has found and collected over time to use as design elements within individual bundle-dye projects. Attendees will fold their flora into simple white fabric provided by Beezie Textiles, and then steam-heat their “bundles” so that the plants leave an imprint of color and form. While the fabric steams, Cohen will lead a discussion about the medicinal properties of the bundle-dye plants and process.
At the end of the workshop, attendees will walk away with an item they have dyed themselves, as well as a worksheet providing useful resources for future projects.
